A man who reportedly attempted to steal money from a corner store in Philadelphia was shot and killed by the clerk on Wednesday night, according to multiple media reports.
NBC Philadelphia reported the shooting happened at Happy Day Food Market at South 58th Street and Whitby Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The news station said police told them that preliminary information appears to show the shooting was self-defense.
The man with a gun entered the store partially masked, went behind the counter and started grabbing cash. The employee then pulled a weapon and shot the robber.
Police told the news station that the shooting victim was found on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds and cash protruding from his pockets. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fox29 reported the would-be thief was 28 years old. Other employees and one customer were in the store at the time. No one else was injured.
