Calling all student designers, TLC Main Line Fashion and Design Show in Bryn Mawr on Sunday, May 19
“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street. Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
Coco Chanel‘s sentiments are still à propos, despite the passing of decades since she revolutionized fashion.
One way to understand “what is happening” is to create experiences for student artists and designers to showcase their fashion ideas.
Since 2007, just such an opportunity has steadily developed in the form of the annual Teen Learning Community Student Fashion and Design Show.
The upcoming Sunday, May 19th Fashion and Design Show will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in “The Big Room” of Ludington Library.
The F and D Show originated in May of 2007 at the Bryn Mawr Gazebo and Spring House, followed by a move to the Bryn Mawr Community Center building, followed by shows from 2011 to 2019 at The Main Line Art Center.
On September 26, 2021 at The Bryn Mawr Gazebo, TLC ran a merchandise preview set up by Radnor’s Kaitlyn May in collaboration with Harriton “Singer-Songwriters Main Line” directed by Rose Weathers and Ava Grabar, followed by a well-attended Spring 2022 F and D Show.
This year’s show in “The Big Room” will prove to be the best yet. Student-Directors Nadia Horchler and Nayra Garcia have been running planning sessions for the past several months at Radnor High School.
Designers, clothing makers, and metal arts students from various Main Line schools will be modeling their clothing, jewelry, and accessories and describing the inspiration for their work.
As the core of the show, Radnor High School’s Textile Arts Teacher and TLC Mentor Melanie Pereira has arranged for several of her students to model dresses, tops, and ensembles which they have sewn and developed.
Starting at 2:30 pm, there will be an opening concert featuring Lower Merion High School singer+songwriter Damini Babu on guitar.
Next, the designers, models, and special guests will be introduced.
The event’s proceeds, in the way of contributions and the raffle of fabulous items, will be donated to The Crohn’s Disease and Colitis Research Foundation based in Bala Cynwyd.
