In late July ESF Dream Camp hosted an event which was a culmination of a five-week karate class training. Guests were able to view the campers’ newly learned skills and those who qualified were able to receive a special belt.
ESF Dream Camp is a five-week summer camp designed to transform the lives of youth from Philadelphia’s under-resourced communities through innovative year-round programs that nurture the individual, educate the mind, and inspire the spirit. They strive to break the cycle of generational poverty by teaching children to create successful pathways for themselves. Dream Camp empowers children to become future leaders and contributors to the city.
Held at Chestnut Hill College Dream Camp hosted 150 campers who enjoyed a schedule of activities like reading, chess, science experiments, fine arts, martial arts, karate and video production with mission-driven educators as well a as physical activity each day with the sports coaches.
ESF Dream Camp programs offer out-of-school time enrichment free of charge for working families to help keep kids safe and engaged after school and during the summer.
For the students and their families, Dream camp is more than just an after-school and summer program. The campers and the Dream Camp family have an oasis to call their own, a place where they feel safe and supported. The caring mentors build students up and give them chances to lead. Their belief is with a strong foundation of academic support and stable adult relationships, dream campers can envision a positive future for themselves and their communities.
