Penn Valley Junior Sports Association travel team wins ICBA state basketball title

A Penn Valley Junior Sports Association (PVJSA) boys basketball travel team composed of fourth graders from Lower Merion School District recently captured the 2024 State Championship Basketball Tournament title held at Penn State University, winning all five of their games.

In order to qualify for the state championship tournament, teams had to participate in and win an associated league or tournament championship. The PVJSA team qualified for this year’s state tournament after winning gold at the Inter-County Basketball Association (ICBA) King of Court Tournament.

The squad was coached by former Welsh Valley Middle Schooler and Harriton High School alumna (2019) Christina Brown, who starred for the Rams’ basketball team and is a member of the prestigious 1,000-Point Club. Serving as assistant coach was her father, Kenny Brown.

Team members were Miles Richardson, Jack McGarry, Eli Greenstein, Reed Pockl, Jack Blenheim, Victor Zervanos, Nathan Petyk-Barnes, Zain Almefty, Sam Kivler and Luke Allen.

PVJSA has been serving the community for more than 40 years and offers basketball leagues, clinics and camps to local youths in 2nd to 10th grade.  In addition to the recreation programs, PVJSA offers travel basketball opportunities for players looking for enhanced training and development as well as a more competitive playing experience.  To learn more about PVJSA, visit www.pvjsa.org
