Emily S. Parkin OBITUARY

(5/20/1922 – 4/19/2024) Emily Seers Parkin, a resident of Narberth since 1950, died April 19, 2024. She was born in Milton, PA in 1922, to Frank and Anna Seers. She graduated Bucknell University with a B.S. degree in Biology. She completed her studies at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia and was certified as a Medical Technologist. Subsequently, she worked in laboratories at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Delaware Memorial Hospital, and the Hematology Department at the Cardeza Foundation of Jefferson Hospital. After their sons grew up, she returned to work in the Oncology Department at Lankenau Hospital for ten years, retiring in 1986. Emily was active in the public schools, her community and church. She served on the Parent Teacher Association boards of the Narberth and Lower Merion schools and was an officer of Interschool Council. With Kathryn Westman, she co-founded N.I.C.E., Narberth Improvement and Clean-up Endeavor. At the Narberth Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and coordinated the Jr. High Wednesday Club. Since 1984, she has been a member of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church where she served on the New Member Council and actively volunteered in the church office. In 2006, the Parkins celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Her husband, Henry G. Parkin, Jr. died that year. She is survived by their two sons: Jeffrey, his wife Susie and their two sons, Noah and Lukas, of Chapel Hill, NC; and Garry, his wife Missy and their three daughters, Kelly, Anna and Celia, of Rosemont, PA. She also had three great grandchildren, Rex, Maisie and Lilianna. A funeral service will take place on May 20 (her birthday) at 11AM in the chapel of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Avenue, Bryn Mawr. Interment will be in West Laurel Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by Stuard’s of Ardmore. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church.
