LOWER MERION — Lower Merion is asking for the public’s input on sidewalks.
The public is invited to the second-floor board room of the township building at 75 E. Lancaster Ave. on Thursday, June 13 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to share input and discuss the township’s sidewalk improvement program with township staff.
According to township officials, there has been an increased interest in pedestrian mobility and safety throughout Lower Merion, and there has been significant public interest in improving the community’s sidewalk network.
Under the township’s 2016 Comprehensive Plan, “Improving pedestrian and bicycle mobility is crucial to reducing unnecessary vehicular trips for local uses, improving public transportation access and generally enhancing the quality of life for all residents.”
In October, township commissioners adopted a sidewalk policy within the Capital Improvement Plan to fund new sidewalks identified in the Township’s Comprehensive Plan.
To improve the mobility of residents and lessen the dependence on congested roadways, the commissioners approved a preliminary list of 14 high-priority sidewalk projects to be installed throughout the township.
This public meeting is being held to inform residents about the recent sidewalk improvements in the township, discuss implementation challenges, and explain the criteria behind the identification of high-priority projects. Staff will seek input regarding potential additional sidewalk segments and identified high-priority segments.
