District 12 basketball champion Devon Prep wins PIAA state tourney opener

When the Devon Prep basketball team defeated Math, Civics and Sciences, 53-33, at West Philadelphia High School March 1 to win the District 12 3A title, it marked the first time that the Tide captured a District 12 basketball championship. Devon Prep joined the PCL in 2028-2019 and that is when it also joined District 12.

The Tide followed up its District 12 title with a 73-32 win against District 3 third-place finisher Delone Catholic in the PIAA 3A state opener March 9. For Devon Prep, Shane Doyle had 19 points, five rebounds, five assists and six steals, Reece Craft added 14 points and nine rebounds and Zane Conlon and Ayinde McLendon scored 11 points apiece.

With the win in the PIAA 3A state tourney opener, Devon Prep advanced to the second round of the PIAA 3A tournament against District 2 champion Riverside, to be played March 13 at Liberty High School.
