The Harriton boys basketball team is off to a 6-2 start (as of Dec. 19), capped by a 68-41 win against Great Valley in the City of Basketball Love tournament Dec. 16.
The Rams have also picked up key non-league wins over Upper Moreland and Council Rock South to go with league wins over Springfield (Delco) and Penncrest, which was capped off with a buzzer beater from Max Seltzer.
Leading the way for the Rams have been Marquis Kubish (15.6 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 3.3 apg) and Jadyn Gaskins (12.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.8 spg). Cam Sullivan, Sean Gallagher and Max Seltzer also have been contributing to the Rams’ effort.
Harriton boys basketball head coach Jesse Rappaport paid tribute to the squad’s teamwork.
“Without us being a cohesive unit, we will not be a strong team, we will struggle. But together, with everyone being a star in their role, our ceiling gets higher,” said Rappaport.
Sullivan said, “Our start means everything. We can’t succeed as a team unless everyone is all in and everyone trusts everyone. Marquis and Jayden have been great. They have been able to get around their guy which causes the defense to collapse leaving someone open. If they don’t have the shot they have been great in making the extra pass to the open guy.”
Kubish added, “It (the 6-2 start) is a great feeling. We are coming together and working hard in practice each day playing as a team. The coaches talked to me about being a leader and making the right play. That means either taking a good shot or making the extra pass. I know if I make that extra pass my teammates are going to come through and that’s a great feeling.”
