NEWTOWN SQUARE – Newtown Township announced that it has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2021 budget. The award represents a significant achievement for Newtown Township and reflects its commitment to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, Newtown Township had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, which are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:
A policy document
A financial plan
An operations guide
A communications device
A Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation was presented to Rich Lafiata, finance director. Stephen Nease, township manager, stated, “Richard Lafiata, and everyone in the Finance Department worked very hard to improve budget awareness and transparency. Their efforts have greatly improved the township’s budget documentation over the last 5 years and this award reflects their hard work.”
Newtown Township has applied for the GFOA Budget Presentation Award for the past two years and this is the second time the Township has won. With more than 1,700 participants in the Budget Awards Program, award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout the United States and Canada. Last year only 20 governmental organizations in Pennsylvania received this award; Newtown Township was the only one in Delaware County.
