RADNOR – Radnor officials promoted the township’s newest police sergeant during a ceremony with the Radnor Board of Commissioners this week.
Sgt. Katherine Reardon was promoted to her current rank after being sworn in by District Magisterial Judge David Lang.
Reardon’s promotion followed the recent retirement of Sgt. Joe Maguire, one of the longest-serving sergeants in the township’s history.
Reardon is also the second woman to reach the rank of sergeant in the police department’s 120-year history.
“The sergeants are the first line of defense,” said Chris Flanagan, superintendent of the Radnor Police Department. “The command staff cannot do their job without the sergeant’s support. They are the voice of the managers, the commissioners, and the chief of police to the men and women who are out on the street – which is the backbone of the police department – the people you see on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day driving around all over the township, all hours of the night and day.”
Before joining the Radnor Township Police Department in April of 2013, she was a police officer with Darby Borough and with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department. Reardon graduated from La Salle University with a degree in American Studies and History. She has also served as an acting sergeant, a field training officer and, she worked with the Delaware County Drug Taskforce.
“She performed on a very high standard, putting Radnor police at the top of the list for the district attorney,” Flanagan said.
