NORRISTOWN — A Norristown man is headed to prison on drug trafficking charges after a search of his residence uncovered methamphetamine, cocaine and drug packaging materials.
Wakeem Jackson, 39, of the 800 block of Stanbridge Street, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 3½ to 10 years in a state correctional institution after he pleaded guilty to felony charges of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and cocaine in connection with incidents that occurred between April and May 2023.
Judge Wendy G. Rothstein, who accepted a plea agreement in the case, recommended that Jackson be housed at the State Correctional Institution at Waymart in Wayne County for mental health treatment. State Department of Corrections officials will make the final determination where Jackson will serve his sentence.
Jackson will receive credit for the year he spent in jail while awaiting court action on the charges.
Court documents indicate Norristown detectives began an investigation of Jackson in April 2023 after receiving information that Jackson was “involved in the sale of illegal narcotics in Norristown.” Detectives obtained a warrant to search Jackson and his residence.
Armed with those search warrants, detectives went to Jackson’s Stanbridge Street apartment on May 10, 2023, and observed him leaving the residence and getting into a white Chevrolet pickup truck, which authorities subsequently stopped. At that time, a search of Jackson’s person uncovered a clear, knotted bag in his groin that contained about one ounce of crack cocaine packaged in smaller yellow and clear packets, according to the criminal complaint.
When detectives searched Jackson’s apartment they found about one ounce of suspected crack cocaine, two ounces of methamphetamine, a digital scale and materials used to package drugs. Based on their training and experience, detectives alleged Jackson possessed crack cocaine and methamphetamine with the intent to deliver the drugs to others, according to the arrest affidavit.
Norristown detectives were assisted during the investigation by members of the Montgomery County Detective Bureau’s Narcotics Enforcement Team.
Other charges of possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed against Jackson as part of the plea agreement.
