LOWER MERION — Lower Merion officials now know when their current school superintendent is leaving.

During a meeting last week, the school board voted to accept the resignation of Superintendent Steven Yanni.

Yanni, who announced he was leaving to take a job in his home district in the Central Bucks School District, will leave Lower Merion on June 30. The school board in Central Bucks approved Yanni’s appointment as superintendent during its meeting earlier in May.

Kerry Sautner, president of the Lower Merion Board of School Directors, said Lower Merion has already begun the process of naming an acting superintendent.

“We will have that person in by July 1,” Sautner said.

They have also begun the process of exploring search firms to find Yanni’s replacement.

“We appreciate Dr. Yanni’s willingness to stay through the end of this academic year,” Sautner wrote in a letter to the community that has been posted on the district’s website. “Our Board is continuing to work on identifying an appropriate leadership structure for LMSD to ensure the seamless continuity of programs in the District after his departure and through the time a permanent successor is chosen. We are confident the District administration and staff will do all that is needed to run our summer programs successfully and to make sure that the 2024-2025 school year, with its important initiatives of LMSD Smart Start and universal Full-Day Kindergarten, move forward.”
