RADNOR – Radnor officials are asking for public input on dogs in some of its parks.

Under an announcement that was first posted on the township’s website, Radnor’s parks and Rec board will hold a special meeting on Thursday, April 13, to discuss concerns over dogs in some of its parks.

The meeting was also briefly raised at a commissioner’s meeting this week.

“I also wanted to announce at the next parks and rec board meeting, we are going to discuss the topic of dogs in the park, specifically at the Willows and in Skunk Hollow, so it will be a focused meeting,” Tammy Cohen, director of parks and recreation for Radnor Township, said during a recent board of commissioners meeting.

The meeting is designed as a way for members of the public to provide their input about general and safety-related experiences regarding dogs in these public areas.

Members of the public interested in the issue can attend the meeting and participate in the discussion. The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Radnorshire Room of the Radnor Township Municipal Building, 301 Iven Avenue in Wayne.

Commissioner Maggy Myers said the issue of leashes and dogs in the parks was recently raised at a health committee meeting as a safety issue.

Among the issues is that often people take their dogs to the Willows and then let them run off-lease as soon as they get out of the car. With the Willows being a popular place for holding events, dogs running without leases can cause problems.

Myers said it could even keep people from going to those parks.

“Not only are you potentially putting people at risk with dogs running off-leash, but you’re potentially intimidating people that would use the park that are now afraid to use the park because the dogs are off-leash,” Myers said.
