The Jeptha Abbott Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will dedicate an America 250! Revolutionary War Patriots Marker on Sunday, November 6, at 2 p.m. at Old Eagle School Cemetery, 175 Old Eagle School Rd, Wayne, PA 19087.
July 4, 2026, is the 250th anniversary of America’s independence. In anticipation of this, Congress established the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission to plan and orchestrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. The National Society DAR (NSDAR) is privileged to have Lynn Forney Young, Honorary President General, serve on this commission.
America250’s purpose is to create a historic and dynamic celebration of our country’s first 250 years. And America250PA’s mission is to encourage, develop and coordinate the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and to represent Pennsylvania’s integral role in that event. America250PA hopes to engage all citizens of the Commonwealth and leave a lasting impact on the next generation in order to ignite the drive for them to appreciate all the triumphs, trials and tribulations of the founding of our state and country.
The NSDAR established the America 250! Committee to promote the birth of our nation and honor the individuals who achieved American independence. Its Revolutionary Patriots Marker program honors the memory of the men and women who secured American independence through their service and sacrifice during the Revolutionary War. The program also raises appreciation amongst current and future generations of Americans for our Patriots’ sacrifices.
DAR chapters are encouraged to purchase and erect standardized markers customized with the sponsoring organization’s name. The National Society’s goal is to place at least one marker in every state in advance – and in celebration – of the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
The hope is to create a coast-to-coast network of markers, not unlike the National Society’s Madonna of the Trail statues, which feature 12 monuments dedicated to the spirit of pioneer women in the United States. These new markers will also become sources of pride for local communities to celebrate the brave Patriots who founded our nation. In addition, they remind our community of the importance of emulating their conviction, courage, and cooperation toward national unity.
The text of the 30’ by 30’ bronze marker reads:
Revolutionary War Patriots
This marker commemorates the men and women who achieved American independence.
These Patriots, believing in the noble cause of liberty, fought valiantly to found a new nation.
